The World Maritime Day celebrations - Part 4
This event was held at the Merchant Navy Club here in Kochi, It saluted the spirit of the seafarers in the country and focused on threats like piracy, criminalization of seafarers and the life-threatening viruses that infest the ports of call. The Chief Surveyor with the Government of India, Mr. Amitava Banerjee was the chief guest at the event, Seafaring as a career should be portrayed as a profession of stature, said Mr. Pradeep Correa, General Manager, Great Eastern Shipping. The World Maritime Day Celebrations was felicitated by Shri. T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan (Assistant Solicitor General of India), High Court of Kerala and the Inaugural Speech was given by Mr. M.P. John (Principal Officer, MMD). There was a presentation on ‘The Maritime Training Institute Perspective’ by Shri. S.I. Nathan (Director of Coimbatore Marine College). Shri. P.M. Mohammed Haneef (General Secretary of All India Port and Dock Work Federation and FPC Shipping Committee Member) also spoke on the subject ‘Seafarers Welfare Organization Perspective.’
